Scholarships scholarships galore

Ready for more WEIRD, weird, weird – I mean weird scholarships? There’s some in here that are for that 1 person, and some for anyone who’s not exactly on the “straight and narrow”

Alice McArver Ratchford Scholarship
Requirements and Qualifications: attend the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, be a female unmarried undergraduate who lives on campus, has no car, and if that’s not enough: demonstrate financial need and not be the winners of another scholarship.
Chick and Sophie Major Memorial Duck Calling Contest
$1500 to the high-school student who can call the best duck with the most flare in the process. First prize is $500, second $300, and the third $200. Contestants have 90 seconds to show the judges what they’re made of.

The David Letterman Scholarship
First-prize $10,000 scholarship, the runner up a $5,000 scholarship, and the second runner up a $3,333 scholarship. Applicants who plan on attending Ball University must submit an authentic and creative telecommunication-related project. Projects may be submitted in written, research, audio, multimedia, computer graphic, website or similar presentation form.

Klingon Language Institute Award
A $500 scholarship to one graduate or undergraduate. Knowledge of Star Trek or the international language of Klingon is not a requirement. Requirements are: nominated by a school department and must demonstrate academic merit in languages. Submissions should include the nomination letter, two recommendation letters, a resume and a statement of future intent.

The National Candy Technologists Scholarship
The American Association of Candy Technologists (AACT) awards a $5,000 scholarship to sophomore, junior and senior students who demonstrate an interest in confectionary technology. The award is paid in two $2,500 installments to winners who attend an accredited four-year college or university. Applicants must earn a 3.0 GPA and be majoring in food science, chemical science, or biological science.

teaching, teaching the masses

Teaching is a misunderstood, undervalued, and often under paid profession. Teaching is on the skids right now. It seems whenever there is money problems and there is unrest in the world, the first place to cut money is teaching.

Hasn't it been shown that the more educated people are, the less violent they are? So what are we doing?

Not all of the scholarships that are out there are strict and by the book. There are thousands of scholarships that are a little bit on the weird side.

If you have sworn off meat, and chosen to eat only veggies; the Vegetarian Resource Group Scholarship is yours. They have to have promoted vegetarianism in their school. And they could win up to $10,000.

If you were any good in the economics class stock market, the Excellence in Predicting the Future Award is right up your alley. This scholarship is designed to encourage students to pursue economics and take part in the prediction market.

The NCTA Help Santa Find the Perfect Real Christmas Tree scholarship offers $5,000 to $10,000 to anyone between 6 to 16 for the winning a winning essay.

If you can kind of skate, have at least a 2.5 gpa, there’s a $5000 scholarship, and three $1,000 runner-up scholarships. Then you need to check out The Patrick Kerr Skateboard Scholarship

If you create your entire suit and your dates attire for the prom with Duct Tape it could be worth $3000 for you and your date.

AFSA High School Essay Contest
The American Foreign Service Association National High School Essay Contest is open to all high school students whose parents are not in the United States Foreign Service. The winner will receive $2500 and a trip to Washington, DC with three members of their family. The winner’s school will also receive $500. English-Speaking Union (Lucy Dalbiac Luard Scholarships)
This is a full scholarship for a junior year of study at a British university for students attending historically African-American institutions or Howard or Hampton universities. ESSENCE Scholars Program
For 35 years, ESSENCE has been the only magazine dedicated to reflecting Black women and their lives. That mission has not changed. Rather than addressing her as a woman with one interest, one style, and one perspective - we see her and speak to her as multidimensional. Fisher Broadcasting Minority Scholarship
In order to qualify for The Fisher Broadcasting Minority Scholarship, you must be of non-white origin. You must be at least a sophomore enrolled in: A broadcast, marketing, or journalism curriculum leading to a baccalaureate degree at an accredited four-year college or university. A broadcast curriculum at an accredited community college, transferable to such a four-year baccalaureate degree program. A broadcast curriculum at an accredited vocational-technical school. If you are a permanent resident of the states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana Or Georgia, tuition may be applied to an out-of-state school.

Gates Millennium Scholars Program
The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS), funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, was established in 1999 to provide outstanding African American, American Indian/Alaska Natives, Asian Pacific Islander Americans, and Hispanic American students with an opportunity to complete an undergraduate college education, in all discipline areas and a graduate education for those students pursuing studies in mathematics, science, engineering, education, or library science.
