Parts or figures of speech

Many people do not realize the difference between metaphor and simile. Parts of speech are very important, and can change the way people understand the literature they're reading. Therefore, in order to help everyone out with these, here's a list of all parts of speech or figures of speech, and what they mean. Then just help you out a little more, I've added examples. I hope this helps everyone who needs it.

Fee free to "steal" this list if you would like, but please come back with comments for any future ideas. Thank-you

- Metaphor – Life is a beach, No man is an island

Note: See how much can be said in such a small amount of words?

- Simile – As hard as nails, Dry as a bone

- Symbolism – The flag and all it’s symbols which put together represent our country. Go over the symbols.

- Personification – The sun peeked over the horizon, The tree sighed as the wind blew.

- Alliteration – Slyly the slimy slippery snake slithered into the sweet sack of sugar.

- Onomonpeia – Buzz, Boing

- Hyperbole – ice cream cones a mile high
